Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator

What is BMI?

BMI calculates size based on height and weight without concern for a body’s frame.

What is a normal BMI?

A normal BMI typically ranges between18.5 and 25. A BMI of 25-30 is considered overweight, a BMI over 30 is considered obese, and less than 18.5 is considered underweight.

BMI is not a perfect test, however. Results can be impacted by pregnancy, high muscle mass, age, and even race. Consider BMI as more of a cautionary number. The higher one’s BMI, the higher the risk of developing:

  • diabetes
  • arthritis
  • liver disease
  • cancer
  • high blood pressure (hypertension)
  • high cholesterol
  • sleep apnea

If you have a high BMI, check with your doctor to determine whether or not you should be concerned.
