What is Angioplasty?

If you have a clogged artery and are told that you are in need of angioplasty, this is what you can expect.

A stent with a balloon inside is inserted into the partially blocked portion of the artery. Then, that balloon is inflated to expand the stent. The balloon is removed and the expanded stent stays in place allowing improved blood flow.

Without a stent, the artery may clog completely cutting off blood and oxygen to your heart and lungs.
